El Instituto Multidisciplinario para la Salud es una institución de carácter
científico - técnico, que asume el compromiso de contribuir al progreso de la salud,
a través de la investigación, el desarrollo de recursos humanos, la asesoría técnica
y la prestación de servicios de promoción y prevención en áreas seleccionadas,
todo en respuesta a las necesidades del país, con visión hacia el futuro y articulando
su que hacer al de sectores e Instituciones nacionales e internacionales

Human Resource Development
Technical and Scientific Advisory for Promotion and Prevention

The Multidisciplinary Institute for Health (IMSALUD) is a scientific and technical
institution created for the progress of health in Guatemala, through research,
human resource development and technical assistance, mainly realted to health
promotion and prevention. We plan and carry out our activities based on the
country´s needs and resources, looking towards the future and joining our activities
to those of national and international institutions who also work in the health field.

Health is determined by a variety of causes. In order to analyze these causes and
carry out health related activities, a transdisciplinary approach is ideal. This approach
includes a variety of disciplines, not only in the biological and psychological,
but also social, economic and environmental.

Guatemala currently faces a complex and delicate health situation, in which an
epidemiological "accumulation" is occuring, which is characterized by the
persistence of infectious and nutritional problems (which affect the majority of
the country, mainly in the rural countryside), as well as an sustained increase in
the prevalence of chronic diseases and cancer, mainly amongst adults of urban areas.
Additionally, there are significant violence problems, especially among young people,
as well as car accidents, and an important decrease in mental health and environment.
